SBB Senior Development Manager Limon Bunn is beginning an exciting new chapter in the UK, where she will study a Master of Arts in Education at Nottingham Trent University as a Chevening Scholar.
Limon is the first SBB staff member to receive a prestigious Chevening Award, which supports emerging leaders from around the world to pursue postgraduate study in the UK.
Ahead of her departure, Limon visited the British Embassy in Phnom Penh, where she met British Ambassador Dominic Williams and Nilma Dole Williams as she prepared for the journey ahead.
Back in Siem Reap, the SBB team marked the occasion by giving Limon a taste of British life with fish and chips, complete with baked beans.
But behind the celebration is an important story about Cambodian leadership in education.
As Senior Project Manager, Limon has played an important role in SBB work alongside teachers, school leaders and communities in rural Cambodia. Her experience is grounded in Cambodian classrooms and in the practical challenges of improving teaching and learning.
Studying a Master of Education at Nottingham Trent University will give Limon the opportunity to build on that experience, deepen her expertise and develop new ideas and relationships that she can bring back to Cambodia.
Her achievement reflects something fundamental to our approach: lasting improvements in Cambodian education depend on investing in Cambodian educators and leaders. Developing their expertise, confidence and networks helps ensure that change is increasingly led and sustained within Cambodia.
To mark Limon’s journey, we spoke with her and her father about what receiving a Chevening Award means to them. SBB leaders from Cambodia and the UK also shared their advice, reflections and good wishes for the journey ahead.
For Limon, a year in Nottingham represents an opportunity to learn and connect internationally. While there she will be supported by our SBB UK Trustees and will attend UKFIET in 2027 in Oxfor.m For SBB, it is an investment in the future of our organisation and in the Cambodian leadership that will continue driving our work.
Limon takes with her years of experience working alongside Cambodian educators – and will return with new knowledge, perspectives and connections to put to work for Cambodian education.
