SBB has taken an important step in expanding its work to a new district in northwestern Cambodia: Banan District in Battambang Province. Committed to strengthening teacher capacity and ensuring quality education for all children, SBB is extending the Transform Education Project to additional schools across the district, broadening its impact and deepening support for local educators.
In late October, our team had the privilege of meeting with the Deputy Director of the Provincial Office of Education, the District Governor, and various school committees, to sign a three-year Transform Education Project implementation agreement that confirms SBB’s partnership with schools in the Banan District. SBB Managing Director,Pov’s wide smile as he shakes hands with the District Governor- Sreng Sokha, symbolises the team’s enthusiasm to be starting a new chapter for our organisation.
Diving right in, SBB launched its first Teacher Professional Identity (TPI) workshop in Banan, bringing together 41 teachers and school leaders. Excitement filled the air as participants gathered outside, chatting and preparing for the session ahead. Once inside, they took their seats, this time as learners themselves, ready to build the skills and mindsets that will ultimately benefit their own students. Their commitment to growing as educators, not just for personal development but for the success of their
classrooms, is genuinely inspiring. SBB deeply values this dedication, and it continues to drive our mission to support teachers through high-quality workshops, resources, and ongoing coaching.
The first TPI workshop was led by Sambor, Pov, Sarakk and Sreyphet. Its purpose was to strengthen teacher professionalism and confidence, foster positive and inclusive classroom culture, and promote equitable teaching practices. Teachers also developed personal improvement plans to guide their ongoing professional growth. Laughter, collaboration, and thoughtful discussion filled the room as teachers explored strategies to improve their teaching and classroom routines.
We look forward to witnessing their continued development as they refine their practice and contribute to raising the quality of education across the district.
In the months ahead, a series of workshops will continue to support these educators, covering topics such as teacher identity, effective maths instruction and leadership development. Recent data shows that many primary students face challenges with foundational numeracy skills, particularly counting and ordering numbers. SBB’s previous work has consistently improved maths proficiency across partner districts, and we are committed to helping teachers in Banan apply new, evidence-based methods that better meet their students’ needs.
The launch of the Transform Education Project in Banan marks not just the expansion of our work, but a deepening of our commitment to teacher empowerment in Cambodia. With strong partnerships, dedicated educators, and a shared vision for change, we are confident that together we can create classrooms where every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive. This is only the beginning, and we are excited for what the next three years will bring.
